DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, FL — Florida police released video of the arrest of a 25-year-old Daytona Beach man who allegedly threatened to commit a mass shooting in which he wanted to “break a world record for longest confirmed kill ever” and leave 100 people dead. Tristan Scott Wix was one of three people arrested in recent days for allegedly threatening to carry out mass shootings around the United States in the wake of recent attacks in El Paso and Dayton.
Wix was arrested Friday outside a supermarket in Daytona Beach Shores, which is about five miles away from Daytona Beach, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. He was charged with making written threats to kill or do bodily injury since no attack actually occurred.

The Associated Press reported that 22-year-old Brandon Wagshol of Connecticut was also arrested after police received a tip that Wagshol may have been planning to commit a mass shooting. They seized weapons and ammunition from his home.
“A school is a weak target … I’d be more likely to open fire on a large crowd of people from over 3 miles away,” Wix allegedly penned in Florida. “I’d wanna break a world record for longest confirmed kill ever.”

At one point, Wix allegedly said he wanted someone to act as a spotter.
“I wanna open fire on a large crowd of people from over 3 miles away before I die and I need a spotter (laughing cry face emoji),” he allegedly wrote. “What you wanna do after the fact, is your own business, if you want to plan to escape we can work on that. But I don’t intend on walking away alive, unless I see it fit.”
Wix allegedly boasted that he had already selected the location.
“Is that bad,” he allegedly asked. “Ah well, even if you told someone, me saying I wanna do it and think about it is not the same as actually doing it. LOL. Was kinda hoping someone would come into my life worth not doing it for, for the sake of all those people (laughing cry face emoji). I’m not crazy I just wanna die and I wanna have fun doing it, but I’m the most patient person in the world.”
Sheriff’s detectives and members of the Volusia County Crime Center worked with members of the New Smyrna Beach Police Department, Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety and Florida Department of Law Enforcement to track down Wix at a Winn-Dixie parking lot in Daytona Beach Shores. Wix was taken into custody by Daytona Beach Shores officers.
“Wix told detectives he does not own any firearms but is fascinated with mass shootings,” the sheriff’s office added.
Wix was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail, where he was being held without bail.
