ATLATNA, GA – He goes by several names, including “Baby Whisperer” or “ICU Grandpa,” or even David Deutchman; whichever name you prefer, you will love the video of him that’s going viral.

Deutchman has volunteered at the pediatric intensive care unit at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta twice a week for the past 12 years. He’s called the “Baby Whisperer” because of his talent for cuddling babies. He’s calmed and soothed hundreds of babies over the years.

He said he has two secrets.

“First of all, hold them snuggly with two hands on them,” he said. “With two hands on the baby, speak to them softly. And sometimes I sing to them; I say to the baby, have you ever heard of Tony Bennett? But they never answer, so I don’t know.”

Frequently, it’s not just the babies who are comforted, Deutchman said.

“I got a message from a mom who said, ‘David was always holding babies in the NICU, but there were times he was taking care of me too.'”

As of noon Friday, the video had garnered 5.5 thousand emojis and 2.8 thousand shares.
