INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Five North Dakota State University wrestlers were listed in the first NCAA Division I coaches’ panel rankings released Thursday, Jan. 24. The next ranking will be released Thursday, Feb. 14 and include the ratings percentage index (RPI).

Leading the way was NDSU redshirt senior 125-pounder Brent Fleetwood, who is ranked No. 8 by the coaches’ panel. Ream, 20-3 overall and 14-1, is bidding for his third NCAA tournament bid.

North Dakota State redshirt junior 133 Cam Sykora (15-5, 7-3) is ranked No. 16, redshirt freshman 149 Jaden Van Maanen (13-8, 6-5) is tied for No. 31, redshirt junior 165 Andrew Fogarty (12-3, 9-2) is No. 20, and redshirt freshman 285 Brandon Metz (11-9, 2-7) is tied for No. 32.

The final rankings will be one of the tools used as part of the selection process to determine the qualifiers for the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. This year’s event is March 21-23 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

Wrestlers in each weight class will be measured by winning percentage, rating percentage index (RPI) and coaches’ rankings to earn spots in their qualifying tournaments for the 2018 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The coaches’ rankings are compiled by a vote of coaches representing each qualifying tournament. For ranking purposes, coaches may only consider a wrestler that has been designated as a starter at a respective weight class. To be eligible for the rankings, wrestlers must have participated in at least five matches against Division I opponents in the weight class and have wrestled within the last 30 days.
