Brock Lesnar is currently the longest reigning Universal Champion of all time despite the fact that he has only occasionally defended the title due to his limited scheduled that he works with WWE. It is usually a given that Brock will wrestle on the ‘big 4’ pay-per-views each year, but Lesnar may not be wrestling at the Royal Rumble event in 2018. Dave Meltzer noted this on the Wrestling Observer Radio show recently, stating that he will likely appear but not put the title on the line. WWE reportedly does not have a worthy opponent for Lesnar at the moment, and a rumored match between Lesnar and Finn Balor for the Royal Rumble has been scrapped.
After spending over a year on the shelf, fans were elated to see Paige make her return to WWE television a few weeks ago. She has since brought on NXT rookies Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose to serve as her allies in her new Absolution stable. Paige, Deville, and Rose did not wrestle as they had been advertised to prior to last night’s Raw, but it has been confirmed that they will be in action next week. The match against Mickie James, Bayley, and Sasha Banks will likely be taking place on Raw next week according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. It is also said that the Absolution group is expected to win their first match as a team next week.
Paige, Deville, and Rose were not the only surprises to show up on the main roster recently. Just one day later, Ruby Riot appeared to have started a group of her own on Smackdown with fellow NXT stars Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan. Unlike Absolution, fans will not have to wait too much longer to see them in action as Shane McMahon announced on Twitter that the team will be in action on Smackdown tonight. The new Smackdown members will be taking on Charlotte Flair, Natalya, and Naomi on tonight’s show. The attack on Becky Lynch from the group last week was likely done as a way to write her off of television as she prepares to shoot The Marine 6 film with The Miz and Shawn Michaels.
