CM Punk has been a controversial figure for most of his professional career. He made a name for himself as an outspoken anti-corporate personality on WWE television a few years ago, but his name is still brought up often despite the fact that he has not been directly involved with professional wrestling for several years now. He left WWE and blasted the company on a podcast with his friend Colt Cabana back in 2014, and he decided to embark on an MMA career instead. CM Punk had his first fight against Mickey Gall last year at UFC 203. He lost the fight, and his career in MMA has remained uncertain ever since his loss to Gall last September.
It appears that CM Punk may now have a completely different project aligned for himself. It was recently reported by PWInsider that CM Punk could be getting ready to join a new television series on Starz soon. Earlier this year, plans for a pro-wrestling drama called Heels was being fast tracked by the Starz Network and ParamountTV with a plan to create eight episodes. The series reportedly focuses on two brothers and the struggles that they face in a wrestling promotion after their father and promoter of the promotion that they work for passes away. One of the brothers will portray a babyface in the ring, while the other will be a heel.
The report from PWInsider claims that CM Punk may have landed himself a role on the show. He has apparently tested (the final step before being offered a role) for the role of the heel brother in the series, and casting directors were supposedly very impressed with Punk’s performance. At one point, producers hoped to cast actors Henry Cavill and Jack Reynor in the leading roles, but those plans fell through. As a result, the series has been put on hold at the moment, and only a script for the pilot episode has been written so far, so the show’s future is very much in question. However, CM Punk could very well be joining the show if everything falls into place eventually.
