B BLOCK TOURNAMENT MATCHES
5. DOUKI def. Ren Narita
Narita showed some impressive grappling and amateur-style offense early on. Taichi distracted the referee long enough for DOUKI to beat the hell out of him with a steel chair, and later hit a double stomp to the back, creating an easy target. He’s got a really unique submission, almost like a combination of a triangle choke and a straight jacket, using his feet to put pressure on the neck. Narita showed a lot of heart and kept fighting his way back using a ton of amateur-style transitions and takedowns, which is so different than anything else in the tournament. The crowd was really behind him, and popped big for a quick release belly-to-belly, and nearly stole it with a series of inside cradles, but eventually DOUKI hits the Suplex De La Luna to win.
6. Robbie Eagles def. Rocky Romero
Kevin Kelly reminds us that Eagles was scouted by Will Ospreay from Australia, and had a spot in CHAOS, but he turned his back on them after Bad Luck Fale “got his hooks in him” and recruited him to Bullet Club. Rocky, as the guy who has sort of held CHAOS together this year, hasn’t forgotten that. Eagles controlled a lot of the action early on, working a slow pace with a lot of holds, but I was actually really focussed on the commentary doing some great story-telling about the history of Rocky Romero. The in-ring story saw Eagles work over his opponent’s knee for most of the match, to the point where every time Rocky fired up late into the match, including the Forever Clotheslines, he couldn’t last long before the knee gave out. Lots of close pinning combinations and nearfalls later on. Eagles hit the Pulse Drop for two, a series of superkicks for two-and-a-half, but finally finished it off with the Warp 4.5 to Romero’s knees, before locking in the Rob Miller Special for the submission. I liked this match quite a lot.
7. El Phantasmo def. Bandido
8. Will Ospreay def. BUSHI
9. Ryusuke Taguchi def. YOH
