For the first time ever, a global pandemic has forced the cancellation of professional wrestling’s greatest event, as WWE prepares to broadcast WrestleMania 36 from behind closed doors, live from their training facility in Orlando.
The unprecedented move has left more questions than answers at this point, and one of those major questions is the status of this year’s WWE Hall of Fame, as well as the annual NXT Takeover event proceeding WrestleMania.
WWE issued the following statement to PWInsider.com:
“The WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony and NXT TakeOver will not take place as previously scheduled. We will share further details as they become available.”
For what it’s worth, the official WWE statement on WrestleMania being moved to the Performance Center also used the words “will not take place [in Tampa]”, so it’s possible one or both events could air in some capacity. It’s of course possible one or both could also be rescheduled for later in the year.
Announced for the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2020 is/was Dave Bautista, the Bella Twins, Jushin Thunder Liger, the British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith, John Bradshaw Layfield, and the New World Order as a faction, represented by Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and Sean Waltman.
