As seen on WWE Smackdown this week, Randy Orton cut a much buzzed about promo during which he fully turned heel. Orton not only ran down the fans, but took shots at “indie darlings” and Bullet Club in the process.

The heel turn is likely setting up a feud between Orton and Jeff Hardy, with current United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura thrown into the mix. Current speculation is that Nakamura will defend his Title against Hardy and Orton in a Triple Threat match at WWE SummerSlam.

According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, it was Orton himself who pushed to turn heel in WWE, and he has reportedly been urging officials to grant him the turn for several months. The Viper has always stated publicly that he prefers being a heel in WWE, and he is expected to be the top heel on the Blue Brand alongside Samoa Joe:

Regarding Randy Orton’s heel turn, it has been something he’s wanted for a while now. Orton definitely pushed for it. I’m expecting him to be the top heel on SmackDown going forward. With him, Nakamura, Joe, Miz & Almas, SD has a strong mix of main event level heels.
