As noted, WWE Smackdown Live star Big Cass was released from WWE today, and there has yet to be word on why the company decided to release the big man.
According to Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com, Vince McMahon himself called a private meeting at today’s WWE Smackdown tapings in Toledo and made the decision to fire Cass.

While details on the exact reason why Cass was released remain scarce, there had been issues with Cass in the past several weeks, with Pro Wrestling Sheet reporting several weeks ago that Cass had big backstage heat on him for directly going against a mandate from Vince McMahon during a Smackdown TV segment with “Little Daniel Bryan”.
The report noted that during the segment, which you can watch below, Cass did hit the big boot as instructed, but then went off-script to rain down on “Little Bryan” with a series of mounted punches. Backstage officials reportedly were not happy about the deliberate disobedience by Cass, especially considering he asked for permission beforehand, was told no, and was then explicitly told to stick to the plan.
Additionally, Bryan Alvarez noted on Wrestling Observer Live today that for whatever reason, Cass was in a bad mood backstage at WWE Money in the Bank last weekend.
