QPR manager Michael Beale has said he turned down the chance to manage Wolves as the opportunity “came a little bit too soon”.
After failing to bring in former Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui, the Molineux outfit turned their attention to Beale, who only took over at Loftus Road in June.
He is doing a terrific job having picked up experience as Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Rangers and Aston Villa.
The Rs are now top of the Championship with eight wins from their opening 15 matches.
Without Beale at Villa Park, Gerrard is on the brink of losing his job, proving how important the 42-year-old was to the Liverpool legend.
While Villa may be on the search for a new manager soon, Wolves currently are and have been since sacking Bruno Lage on October 2.
Beale became their top choice after missing out on Lopetegui and approached QPR to speak with their manager.
However, the Rs boss turned down the opportunity to do so, committing himself to the Championship club.
And Beale has explained why he opted to stay at QPR.
“There’s been a lot in the background, it’s been a difficult few days personally if I’m honest because I was really focused on here and everything came out of the blue and these things really do snowball,” he told the club’s official website.
“When I joined the club in the summer I found an ownership that was really honest with me about what they wanted and they were giving me my first opportunity to be a manager
“I took that task on with a lot of enthusiasm and excitement. They enabled me to build a management team and enabled me to recruit some players that I really wanted to work with.
“I had to talk to them, sometimes their parents, sometimes their agents, sometimes their wives to convince them that QPR was the right time to come.
“So it has all come a little bit too soon.”
Beale added: “It is the aim for me to go and work in the Premier League like it is for all of our players and the idea is to try to go there ourselves as a group.
“At times if we’re doing well there will be speculation and there’ll be temptation.
“One thing’s for sure is Wolves are a fantastic football club, they’re a historic football club.
“It was a real privilege to be asked to go to speak to them but I didn’t think it was the right moment because I entered into an agreement here.
“Integrity is a real big thing for me, and loyalty. You don’t give it to receive it back but I think if they’re the values you live by then at times when you’re put in a position then you have to be strong by them.
“I have been all-in here and I have asked other people to be all-in so I can’t be the first person to run away from the ship.
“I don’t think we are anywhere near where I want QPR to be. We have a lot to do but I’m excited by it.”
