Foot Mercato report this morning that Milan are interested in signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, with the Rossoneri potentially making a move for the 24-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of the season. Initial exchanges have already taken place.

The one-time French international has returned to action at Lyon under Laurent Blanc after being sidelined by previous manager Peter Bosz in the midst of his failed move to Nottinham Forest.

Several clubs are monitoring the situation, including Napoli but also clubs in Spain such as Sevilla, Real Sociedad, and Real Betis – the latter club having also been strongly linked with a move for the Frenchman during the summer transfer window.

The situation is most advanced with Milan, though, and Aouar is intent on joining a particularly ambitious club. The Serie A side have yet to make a concrete move, though. The midfielder was on various clubs’ radars in the wake of his Champions League performances in 2020 but has since fallen away following middling form in successive seasons. Since making his debut with his formative club in the 2016/17 season, Aouar has 41 goals in 221 appearances for Les Gones.
