Santi Aouna is reporting that Lyon are “seriously considering” Peter Bosz’s future as manager at the club. An emergency meeting has taken place between the club’s CEO Vincent Ponsot and the Dutch coach with the latter receiving an ultimatum.
Lyon struggled last season, only managing to finish in 8th. Whilst the club began this season more positively, after investments in Alexandre Lacazette and Corentin Tolisso, they have stalled in recent weeks. They are on a run of three consecutive defeats, against Lorient, Monaco and PSG. The club are currently sixth in Ligue 1, with the club having clearly stated the objective of being on the podium by the time domestic football comes to a halt for the World Cup in late November.
According to Aouna, some players, including Lacazette, don’t understand Bosz’s defensive set-up. Other members of the dressing room have also contacted the club management to complain about the Dutchman’s tactics. In light of this discord, and the poor run of form, Ponsot has given Bosz five games to turn things around and get Lyon back onto the podium.
Things don’t get a lot easier for Bosz in October. In order to “get things back on track” he’ll likely have to get results against Lens, Rennes and Montpellier: a tall order given the current form of all three sides. A quick turnaround seems like a necessity if he is to remain in charge at Les Gones.
