Following a breakdown in talks between Arsenal and Atalanta for the loan of Nuno Tavares (22), Marseille have re-opened talks for the Portuguese defender, according to Fabrizio Romano.
L’Équipe reported last week that Tavares’ doubts over a move led to the Ligue 1 side exploring alternatives. However, Romano now reports that discussions over the player’s loan have been re-opened between Marseille and Arsenal after negotiations with Serie A side Atalanta collapsed.
Having re-opened talks in the past hours, Marseille are now “optimistic” of a deal. The deal would be a straight loan with no option to buy.
Tavares moved to Arsenal last summer and made 28 appearances for the London club, scoring once. However, following the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko (25) from Manchester City, he may find his game time next season limited. Arsenal are therefore looking to loan out the Portugal U21 international in order to give him to develop. The player has three years remaining on his current deal
