L’Équipe report today that Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer is considering pulling the plug on his potential move to Nice following a long-term contract renewal offer from his current club Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Les Aiglons had reached an agreement with the Bundesliga side last week and a contract had been put forward to Sommer, who had been the club’s priority for the summer window in the wake of previous number one Walter Benítez’s departure on a free transfer.
However, the 33-year-old, whose contract expires at the end of next season, also has the option of renewing for a long spell, in a project in which he would be a central figure. The former Basel man is now reflecting on his future and the Nice management are no longer confident about his signing.

INEOS’ Dave Brailsford, who has taken charge of Nice’s transfer dealings, has not yet reached the point of looking for alternatives and is waiting for Sommer’s response to the contract offer. However, he is aware that new manager Lucien Favre likes to work with a squad that is defined as early as possible in the summer. As it stands, out of the three signings (at least) the manager wanted, only Romanian winger Rareș Ilie has arrived.
