L’Équipe report in today’s issue that Real Betis are pushing to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, in a deal which could see the Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho go the other way.

Foot Mercato had previously reported that Les Gones had outright accepted a proposal in principle from the Andalusians. According to sources contacted by Get French Football News, however, the French international was holding off accepting as he believes he should be playing for a better club, potentially in the Premier League.

For L’Équipe, contacts between the two clubs are at an advanced stage for the 24-year-old. Lyon had been asking for €25m. The La Liga has instead offered Carvalho plus a fee in the bracket of €10m to €13m. OL would like to take that figure to €16 on top of the Portugal international, who maanger Peter Bosz is interested in for the number 6 role.

Talks are set to open between Aouar’s team and the Spaniards, with the midfielder having listened to the project presented to him. With his contract expiring at the end of next year, he has not made a departure a priority, but will not necessarily look to leave on a free at all costs.

Although Betis are not necessarily his preferred destination, the prospect of reuiniting with Nabil Fekir and the Sevillans’ impressive season last year – 5th-place finish and a Copa del Rey win – could work in their favour. In any case, he knows he is Betis’ priority, despite his inclination towards a move to England, and knows that he has some time to make a decision.
