Le Parisien report this afternoon that Christophe Galtier is Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Luis Campos’ priority to take over the manager’s job from Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine will be dismissed in the coming days, one year from the end of his contract, after a disappointing 18 months in charge which nevertheless ended with a Ligue 1 title.
Campos has identified two potential successors, with Galtier slightly ahead of the younger candidate. Last year’s league winner with Lille is in favour of working with Campos again, as he did with Les Dogues to such success.
The club are also looking focus their transfer strategy on bringing in French players, and bringing in a local manager can help facilitate things for a new-look PSG.
It remains to be seen whether the prospect of managing Les Parisiens will overpower his loyalty to Jim Ratcliff’s project at Nice with INEOS. In any case, Campos and president Nasser Al-Khelaifi are both working on the project, with the former acting as sporting advisor to the latter. With the task being to lead PSG to the Champions League title in the next two years, Campos will be the man on the ground working with the squad, while Al-Khelaifi remains the connection between the Emir of Qatar and Paris.
