As reported by L’Équipe, after their Champions League exit this week in Madrid, PSG are likely to allow 34-year-old forward Angel Di Maria to leave the club in the summer at the end of his current deal with the club’s hierarchy planning a squad overhaul.
The sports daily say that the less and less utilised Di Maria, now 34, has seen his chances of being granted a contract extension this summer all but extinguished given the now reduced chances to prove he can still affect big games. Di Maria, although previously saying he would only leave PSG for his boyhood club Rosario Central, is likely to look for a final contract in Europe ahead of the November World Cup in Qatar with admirers in both Spain and Italy.
Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez is a reported target to replace Di Maria this summer, as is Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta who has supposedly softened his stance on staying put at OL. PSG had been leaning toward a year’s extension on the player’s contract but hesitation has grown in recent months. This is now likely to be the Argentine’s last season in Paris.
