L’Équipe report today that Premier League duo Liverpool and Arsenal have both decided to attempt to sign AS Monaco attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar next month, after both missing out on the player in the dying embers of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool’s €90m offer, 48 hours before the end of the previous window, was rejected by Monaco, who were holding out for €100m. When Arsenal offered that sum less than 12 hours before the closure of the transfer window, ASM were willing to accept, but the bid had been made too late in the day, with Lemar on international duty at the time.
A new suitor for Lemar has appeared in recent weeks in the form of Chelsea, who contacted the player’s entourage in recent weeks about a possible move.
Lemar is currently under contract with the Ligue 1 champions until 2020, and has rejected a series of contract extension offers from Monaco over the last 12 months.
