Mbappé scored twice in the games that bookended the World Cup break – the November and December awards being merged into one as a result of the tournament – and succeeds Rennes forward Martin Terrier, who was named October’s player of the month.
The PSG man has beaten midfielders Benjamin Bourigeaud of Rennes and Séko Fofana of Lens to the award, and wins the award, which is voted on by the public and his fellow professionals, for the first time this season. Neymar and Lionel Messi had been the winners for August and September respectively. Mbappé’s eight player of the month award wins now puts him three clear as the record-holder, ahead of Zlatan Ibrahimović.
