Paris Saint-Germain have this afternoon announced that Lionel Messi will be absent for tomorrow’s trip to Lorient, with the Argentine suffering from an inflamed Achilles heel and staying in the treatment room as a precaution.

The 35-year-old, who reportedly has not asked to be rested over the next few weeks ahead of the World Cup, has yet to start a match on the bench this season for the league leaders, and already has 12 goals and 14 assists in all competitions this campaign.

Despite the Achilles issue, the Argentine is expected to return to full training next week. Joining Messi on the sidelines are Presnel Kimpembe, Fabián Ruiz and Keylor Navas, all of whom are also set to be back to fitness after this weekend. The goalkeeper was suffering from back issues, while the Spaniard has sustained an adductor injury. The French defender also sustained an Achilles injury, just a week after his return to action from a hamstring problem.
