Mattijs debuted his fourth ready-to-wear collection resonates the joy of fashion. After a strict and conceptual winter the new season celebrates dressing up in all its glory, as is evident by the use of sun-drenched colours and the positive playfulness of structured flowers. The result is striking: a collection of feminine and seductive pieces. Red and pink hues are combined with cobalt blue and pistachio. Soft silks dance around the body and meet Mattijs’ signature pleating creating a sumptuous wardrobe of coats, dresses, skirts, shirts and tops. Airy constructions breathe spring while the colours give a playful summery feel.
Mattijs is known for his innovative yet seductive signature pleating and styling. Designer Mattijs van Bergen understands a woman’s shape and accordingly creates pieces that are modern and relevant, but most importantly that can be worn and treasured in the seasons to come. Mattijs van Bergen graduated from his Masters at Central Saint Martins College in 2007 after finishing his Bachelor from ArtEZ, Institute of the Arts, Arnhem. His graduation collection was hailed by the international praise and nominated him for the Harrods Award. Mattijs recently participated in the ‘Gone with the Wind’ exhibition at the Zuiderzee Museum, Enkhuizen (NL) and the prestigious Arnhem Mode Biennale (NL). Mattijs also designed costumes for the Dutch dance company Introdans. Earlier this year Mattijs was nominated for the Rado Young Designer Award, of which the winner will be announced on 17 October.
